چکیده

Anaerobic digestion (AD) technology is commonly used to treat sewage sludge from activated systems, meanwhile alleviating the energy demand (and costs) for wastewater treatment. Most often, anaerobic run in single-stage systems under mesophilic conditions, as this temperature regime considered be more stable than thermophilic one. However, it known that conditions are advantageous over ones terms of methane production and digestate hygienisation, while unclear which one better concerning dewaterability. Temperature-phased (TPAD) a double-stage AD process combines above-mentioned regimes, by operating digester followed The aim study compare quality TPAD dewaterability, pathogenic safety lower calorific value (LCV) and, based on comparison, consider digested final disposal alternatives. research conducted lab-scale reactors treating waste-activated sludge. dewaterability tested two methods, namely, centrifugation mechanical pressing. experimental results show system most beneficial organic matter degradation efficiency (32.4% against 27.2 TAD 26.0 MAD), producing with high (8.1–9.8% worse 6.2–12.0% MAD) (coliforms Escherichia coli were not detected, Clostridium perfringens counted up 4.8–4.9 × 103, when was only 1.4–2.5 MAD 1.3–1.8 104), lowest LCV (19.2% 15.4% 15.8% respectively). Regarding disposal, after can applied directly agriculture; TPAD, fertilizer case where fermenter HRT assures safety. best being fuel preserving higher portion matter, transforming into biogas during AD.

Microbial diversity in innovative mesophilic/thermophilic temperature-phased anaerobic digestion of sludge.

Anaerobic digestion (AD) is one of the few sustainable technologies that both produce energy and treat waste streams. Driven by a complex and diverse community of microbes, AD may be affected by different factors, many of which also influence the composition and activity of the microbial community. In this study, the biodiversity of microbial populations in innovative mesophilic/thermophilic te...

Drivers of microbial community composition in mesophilic and thermophilic temperature-phased anaerobic digestion pre-treatment reactors.

Temperature-phased anaerobic digestion (TPAD) is an emerging technology that facilitates improved performance and pathogen destruction in anaerobic sewage sludge digestion by optimising conditions for 1) hydrolytic and acidogenic organisms in a first-stage/pre-treatment reactor and then 2) methogenic populations in a second stage reactor. Pre-treatment reactors are typically operated at 55-65 °...

Anaerobic Co-digestion of Sewage Sludge with Cheese Whey under Thermophilic and Mesophilic Conditions

Anaerobic digestion of sewage sludge (SS) and co-digestion with cheese whey (CW) was evaluated in batch conditions under mesophilic and thermophilic regimens. Results indicated that the co-digestion can be successfully attained despite some inhibitory stages that may be initially present due to the accumulation of volatile fatty acids. Degradation of the mixture SS-CW followed a similar pattern...

Thermophilic versus Mesophilic Anaerobic Digestion of Sewage Sludge: A Comparative Review

During advanced biological wastewater treatment, a huge amount of sludge is produced as a by-product of the treatment process. Hence, reuse and recovery of resources and energy from the sludge is a big technological challenge. The processing of sludge produced by Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTPs) is massive, which takes up a big part of the overall operational costs. In this regard, anaerobic...
